Frequently Asked Questions
I’m new to counselling. What can I expect?
I am really glad you have chosen to seek counselling, what a courageous step! Before a first session, some nerves and anxiety are natural. I aim to create a warm and welcoming space where you can ease into that first session. You set the pace, in terms of what you’d like to discuss. There’s no pressure to go faster than you are comfortable with. If you’re unsure of where to begin, I’ve got you! I will gently guide you and likely ask quite a few questions to get a fuller picture of what life is like for you.
How long are sessions?
For most individuals, 50-minute sessions feel like the right amount of time. These are our standard counselling sessions. For some clients, a longer session may feel like a better fit. These can be helpful if you think additional time is needed to get comfortable or if you’d like to dive deeper. Extended sessions are 75-minutes in total. We can discuss and decide together what is best for you.
How frequent are sessions?
We recommend coming to sessions weekly for the first few weeks to gain some momentum, and to aid in the process of us getting to know one another. After this, many clients tend to taper down to bi-weekly sessions, perhaps followed by monthly sessions if you feel you have met your counselling goals or would like to “maintain” your progress.
Do you offer direct billing?
At this time, we do not offer direct billing. Sessions are billed using the credit card you have on file and a detailed receipt is provided to you after each session, so that you can submit to your insurance provider.
Most insurance providers reimburse within 1-2 business days. Please double check that the services of a registered clinical counsellor are reimbursable under your extended health benefits plan.
